I was thinking about our diet lately and how prices are not coming back down so I need to start focusing on getting the biggest bang for my buck when it comes to food. Since cutting back the quantity and variety of what we are eating is a necessity, I want to make sure I am making the best choices I can.
So I did some research on what are the healthiest vegetables on a budget. Different sites listed different vegetables in different order, but there were some vegetables that always made the list. I was glad to see some of the vegetables we eat pretty regularly are on the lists.
The vegetables that came up most often included: Carrots, Broccoli, Brussell Sprouts, Onions, Canned Tomatoes (Apparently cooking them makes them more nutritious than they already are), Spinach, Sweet Potatoes, and Beets.
The fruits that came up most often were: Frozen Berries, Bananas, Oranges, Apples and Cantaloupe
The best proteins for your buck are: Beans, Canned Fish, Pork, Eggs (Usually...), Cottage Cheese, Peanut Butter, Bone-In Chicken
I put this list in my planner where I put my menu plans so I can remember to prioritize these foods when I can.
What are your favorite budget foods to work with?
