Having beans and rice together has been reported to provide a complete protein in addition to all 9 essential amino acids. They are a very inexpensive source of good plant protein and are so much better for us than a lot of cheap foods. It doesn't get much less expensive than dried beans and rice. Often we have refried beans and rice, taco bowls or I will serve butter beans over rice. Feel free to share your favorite ways to use beans and rice!

Canned Beans
Black Beans and Rice- Adding onion, garlic, cumin and some lime juice really boosts the flavor

Red Beans and Rice- This recipe calls for 2 chipotles in adobo sauce. There are several chilies in each can, this could be a good way to use up an open can. It also calls for the "holy trinity" of southern cooking, onion, green pepper and celery. You can usually find these together in a bag in the frozen food department
