I have to admit, I am having a hard time balancing my new job and keeping our house running efficiently. Unfortunately, that means the blog suffered this week. I did end up creating a menu plan on the fly for my family and using up some of our pantry and freezer stores. Not ideal, but I was able to stay away from the restaurants, haha. Honestly, who can afford to eat out?!? My neighbors went out to Long John Silvers over the weekend and they got the 12 piece family dinner and it cost them $48! That is almost half my weekly grocery budget. Being reminded of how much it costs to eat out makes it a little easier to opt for home cooked food, even if it means a bag of generic pizza rolls and canned fruit.
I saw a news story about McDonald's putting out a new $5 meal, but only for a month. A McDouble burger or a McChicken sandwich, a 4 piece chicken nuggets, fries and a drink. It sounds kind of like the old Wendy's biggie bags before they went up to $6 and $7. They are also starting to phase out free refills, so that time tested trick of ordering a drink to split with free refills won't work much longer either.
Are you still eating out in restaurants? What are your best tips to reduce costs?
