I thought I would make a quick post sharing some of the tips I have seen floating around today.
1. Buy a bottle of vegetable oil. Not much oil gets donated to food pantries, but almost everything we cook needs some kind of fat.
2. For boxed mac and cheese, boxed potatoes and hamburger helper, if you don't have milk and butter,
Creamy and fatty substitutes
- Mayonnaise: Use as a substitute for both milk and butter for a creamy, tangy result.
 - Heavy cream: A good substitute for both milk and butter, adding richness and moisture.
 - Sour cream or cream cheese: These can replace the milk, and you can add a small amount of oil or bacon drippings in place of the butter to provide richness.
 - Evaporated milk: Can be used in place of regular milk for a richer flavor.

- Non-dairy milks: Use oat, soy, almond, or coconut milk as a direct substitute for milk. You may need to add a fat source like olive oil or a dairy-free butter substitute for the butter component.
 - Bacon drippings: Can be used instead of butter for a smoky, savory flavor.
 - Pasta water: A simple and effective substitute for milk. Save some of the starchy water from boiling the pasta to mix with the cheese powder. You can still add a fat source like a little oil or mayonnaise.

- When using a creamy substitute for both, use a bit of caution and taste as you go to achieve your desired consistency.
 - For water-based substitutes, consider adding an extra tablespoon of oil, fat, or cream cheese to make up for the richness of the butter.
 - You can also add a little extra flavor with seasonings like black pepper, powdered mustard, or a small amount of soup for more complex flavor

3. Also for hamburger helper and mac and cheese, you don't have to use them as the box says. Hamburger helper is a pasta dish if you don't add the meat. You don't have to use the cheese powder in the mac and cheese box. You can just use the pasta for something else, like a salad or in a soup.
4. Canned beans can be mashed to make a dip or spread for crackers
5. Serve canned soup or stew over mashed potatoes, rice or pasta
I hope you find something useful here. Hang in there!
