Christmas is on the way!!! I am both excited and dreading different parts of this month. I love the Christmas story, family togetherness, the special feeling in the air. I am dreading the gift opening. I tried to set a little money aside each month to save up for Christmas, but this year, we are not giving gifts. Our kids do participate in a gift exchange, they are supposed to pick out a $10 gift and then they play a game where you can steal other peoples presents. A big chunk of our holiday budget is going towards this activity, but the kids seem to enjoy both shopping for and playing the game with their cousins.

Teachers, coaches, etc are getting heartfelt letters from me. The grandparents are getting a family picture printed at Walgreens in a dollar store frame and nice letters written by each one of us. The children are getting stockings, their own wrapped box of sugary cereal bought on sale, and a couple of books bought at the used book store. We also bought a new game and new to us dvd of a favorite movie to open as a family. I have been scouring the internet looking for fun "Minute to Win it" type games that we will play intermittently over the course of the day before we get together with family. The kids know how this past year have been, so they are not expecting a whole lot, but I think the day is going to be fun anyway. For the big family dinner, I volunteered to bring sweet potato casserole, taking advantage of those sweet potatoes I bought on sale before Thanksgiving.

I think the day is going to go well, I've put a lot of mental work into planning the day, so I'm looking forward to it. My attitude is going to be the key to having a successful, fun day.
